2027 Election will be contest of APC versus hungry Nigerian masses – Akuma, NDC Chieftain
A prominent Ebonyi State indigene and Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC), Ebonyi South Senatorial candidate hopeful, Chief Nelson Ahamefula Akuma has said that the 2027 general election would be between the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Nigerian masses.
In an interview with media, Akuma said that the election would be an opportunity for the masses to take back their country from the stranglehold of those who have not made life easy for them.
According to him, the ruling party came with a devastating pronouncement of subsidy removal that resulted in hike in fuel price, adding that it made a mess of the national currency and also caused astronomical rise in the cost of living in Nigeria.
He stressed that instead of the government accepting responsibility for making Nigerians poorer beyond their expectations, they followed it up with their economic arson and propaganda that their reforms are yielding fruits.
The NDC chieftain also described the strategy by the ruling party in different parts of the country as a sign of desperation because they have realized that Nigerians are getting wiser.
“I have said it before and I want to say it again, 2027 general election will be between the Nigerian people and the APC. When the current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was running for an election in 2022, he promised cheaper fuel, that Nigerians will not pay more than N200 per litre if he gets into office. Today, we are paying N1,300 per litre. He promised cheaper transportation and vowed to reduce price of food stuffs in Nigeria.
“Today, a lot of Nigerians don’t know when or where their next meal would come from. He promised to make health care and medicine affordable for Nigerians. He even told Nigerians that if he did not give them steady power supply, they should not vote for him if he comes for second term,” Akuma noted.
According to him, this administration have realized that the masses are not happy with them, as they now employ other means and tactics to win their confidence.
“I am from Ebonyi State and I heard that my State governor has threatened that he would remove any local chairman chairman who did not deliver his council to APC. That is certainly not democracy because local government is the third tier of government and the chairmen were elected the same way the governor was elected.
“Now, the Ebonyi state governor is threatening to remove local government chairmen if they did not deliver their councils to the APC. To start with, how happy is Ebonyi people with his government and what can he say he has done for them with regards to dividends of democracy,” he added.
Akuma expressed optimism that Nigeria Democratic Congress under Peter Obi and Alhaji Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso would form the government in 2027.
According to him, what formed the optimism is the organic love that their candidacy is receiving in all the nooks and crannies of the country.
He cited the recent Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso visit to Port Harcourt where they were welcomed by a massive crowd as well as in the other parts of the country as a testament of their acceptance by Nigerians.
