Tanzania: Obasanjo condoles President Samia over husband’s death, eulogies Hassan’s legacies

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has extended his condolences to the Tanzanian President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, over the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Obasanjo, in a condolence message signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, described the late Hassan as a man who carved a unique path in Tanzania’s history as the country’s ‘First Gentleman.’
He said he received the news of Hassan’s death with “a deep sense of shock and profound sorrow,” adding that he was extending his condolences on behalf of his family and himself.
He said the deceased chose to remain away from the political spotlight while dedicating himself to his family and academic career in agriculture, noting that: “rather than seek the noisy glare of the political spotlight, the late First Gentleman remained a humble and dedicated agricultural academic, choosing to anchor his wife and family with quiet grace.”
Obasanjo mentioned that the late Hassan stood by his family side through the decades, long before the wife took up the task of leading the country as the President .
“His passing is not only a profound personal loss for you and your children, but it is also a loss for the wider East African community that respects your leadership and service,” he said.
According to him, the loss of a lifelong companion and pillar of strength was a heavy burden to bear, urging President Samia to draw comfort from her late husband’s legacy of peace, dignity and steadfast support.
He added that the late Hassan lived a meaningful life and left behind a family that continues to make contributions to public life and society.
