…hails his musical legacy

His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Michael Odunayo Ajayi, JP, FIADRN, FICMN, FIIM (UK), Arowotawaya II, the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa Kingdom, has felicitated with the legendary Juju music maestro, King Sunny Ade, on his 80th birthday.
King Sunny Ade who turns eighty years today, September 22, 2026 is undisputably, the celebrated pioneer of Juju music, elevating the indigenous Yoruba beat to global audience appeal.
Oba Elerinmo described King Sunny Ade as an exceptional cultural icon whose influence has transcended generations and borders, praising the juju king for his remarkable contribution to Nigerian and African music, particularly his role in taking Juju music to international audiences while preserving the richness and identity of Yoruba culture.
He hails the music legend, describing him as a symbol of excellence, creativity, consistency and cultural pride, noting that his decades-long career and enduring relevance are testaments to his extraordinary talent and dedication to his craft.
The monarch also recalled with fondness King Sunny Ade’s remarkable performance at the celebration of his 10th Coronation Anniversary, describing it as one of the memorable highlights of the occasion.
According to him, the legendary musician brought his characteristic brilliance, energy and professionalism to the royal celebration, delivering a performance that thrilled guests and added significant glamour to the historic event.
“Having King Sunny Ade perform at my 10th Coronation Anniversary was a great honour. He did an amazing job and gave us a performance worthy of his legendary status. His presence and music added a special touch to the celebration, and I remain deeply appreciative of the honour he bestowed on us,” Kabiyesi Elerinmo mentioned.
Oba Ajayi further commended King Sunny Ade for the inspiration he has provided to generations of Nigerian musicians and for helping to establish indigenous Nigerian music as a respected force on the global stage.
He noted that beyond entertainment, the octogenarian has played an important role in cultural preservation and representation, using his artistry to showcase the richness of Nigeria and Africa to the world.
