Chief Diana Chen is the Chairman of CIG Motors Nigeria. She celebrates her birthday amidst encomium from well wishers, friends and associates, and she is being recognised not only as one of Africa’s most accomplished business leaders but also as the woman who fundamentally changed how Nigerians perceive Chinese brands.

Chen is being celebrated and discussed extensively among her associates as the image that transformed Nigeria’s automotive industry over the past years.

With her arrival in Nigeria more than 14 years ago, when Chinese vehicles were still viewed with caution, she made remarkable impact that changed the auto narrative in Nigeria. Today, Chinese brands, such as GAC, Wuling and JMC have become established names in the Nigerian market, serving individuals, businesses and government institutions across the country.

According to some of her friends, Chen Diana invested heavily on local assembly, after sales, infrastructure, spare parts, technical training and customer service, helping to build long-term confidence in Chinese automobiles while creating thousands of jobs across the automotive value chain.

It is also noted that her vision also anticipated the future of transportation. Through LagRide, she has helped pioneer one of Africa’s leading technology-driven urban mobility platforms, while Wuling has positioned Nigeria among the continent’s emerging electric mobility markets through accessible electric vehicles and commercial transport solutions.

“Her impact extends well beyond the automotive industry. Under her leadership, Lontor has become one of Nigeria’s leading providers of solar energy and power solutions, bringing reliable lighting, inverters, batteries and renewable energy products to millions of homes and businesses. She also introduced Gree, the world’s number one air conditioning brand, to Nigeria, expanding access to premium cooling technology across residential, commercial and industrial sectors,’ remarked one of her associates.

Together, these businesses have strengthened Nigeria’s automotive, energy and consumer technology sectors while deepening economic cooperation between Nigeria and China.

Beyond business, Chen Diana has consistently championed local manufacturing, skills development and technology transfer, demonstrating how long-term investment can accelerate industrial growth and create lasting economic opportunities.

As she marks another birthday, her legacy can be seen on Nigeria’s roads, in its assembly plants, in homes powered by Lontor products, in buildings cooled by Gree systems and in the thousands of Nigerians whose careers and businesses have been shaped by the ecosystem she has built.

Few business leaders have done more to redefine the perception of Chinese brands in Nigeria or contribute as significantly to the country’s industrial development.

Chief Diana Chen’s story is one of vision, resilience and an enduring commitment to building institutions that will outlast generations.
