The chandelier light of the grand ballroom at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, caught the steady nod of an audience captivated by a shared truth. Amid the clinking of glasses and the hum of Africa’s top entrepreneurs, H.E. Amb. Dr. Tatenda C. Matirongo took the podium as a special guest at the 5th edition of the Visionary Business Leaders’ Award. A passionate sustainability and public health enthusiast, her presence bridged nations, but her opening words bridged hearts.
For Dr. Matirongo, a native of Zimbabwe, stepping onto Nigerian soil was never merely a diplomatic visit, it was a homecoming.
“The moment my feet touched down at the airport, I changed my WhatsApp status to ‘I am home,'” she shared, her smile reflecting a deep, instinctual kinship with the giant of Africa.
Addressing the distinguished gathering on the theme “Building a Resilient Brand Beyond Boundaries,” Dr. Matirongo highlighted Nigeria’s undeniable weight on the global stage. She framed the nation not just as a territory, but as a living, breathing promise of endurance.
“Nigeria is a foremost African country reputed for resilience, rich culture, and excellence,” she emphasized. “It carries a lot of weight across Africa and beyond. A brand is a promise, one that has withstood immense hurdles and pressure, yet keeps marching on. No matter the challenges, Nigeria, and indeed the African brand, survives.”
Pointing to the cultural powerhouse that is Nollywood, Dr. Matirongo highlighted the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) held in Lagos on May 9, 2026, as proof of this unstoppable momentum.
“Nigeria’s talent pool is the heartbeat of Africa,” she remarked. “The AMVCA, in the near future, will compete on the global stage. Beyond survival, African brands must thrive because Nigeria in particular, and the African continent as a whole, remains the brand the world has been waiting for.”
Her powerful message echoed the core mission of the Golden Prestigious Icons/Visionary Business Leaders’ Awards, organized by CEO Bril Magazine. Reaffirming the publication’s commitment to honoring excellence, Publisher Ambassador Emmanuel Ossai reminded the room why celebrating these milestones matters.
“Our organization remains unbiased, driven to celebrate vision, leadership, entrepreneurship, and excellence,” Ossai stated. “Success is not measured only by what we achieve, but by the opportunities we create and the legacy we leave behind.”
